Mr. Charles Ray Ramsey, age 90, formerly of Corbin, entered his eternal rest on Friday evening at his residence in Louisville. Charlie was the husband of the late Ella Opal Ramsey. Charlie and Opal were happily married for 49 years, and made their home in Louisville, where Charlie worked for the L&N Railroad (later CSX) until his retirement. Charlie adored Opal, and they were inseparable, and they particularly enjoyed hosting family and friends on Rough River Lake. As a young man, Charlie served his nation in the U.S. Army. He was an avid fan of the U.K. Wildcats and the Cincinnati Reds. Charlie loved his family with humility, humor, kindness, and excellence. Charlie leaves behind a sister, Alma Givens; a sister, Shirley Henderson, and her husband, Earl; and a sister, Glenda Eaton, and her husband, James, all of Corbin. He leaves behind a sister-in-law, Joyce Fox, of Paducah, and a sister-in-law, Chola Furrow, of Paducah. He leaves behind a fan club of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and their families – scattered from coast to coast – who will never forget the many sacrifices made by “Uncle Charlie” to treat them all like his own kids and grandkids. The funeral service will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 10, 2019, at Laurel Funeral Home in Corbin, officiated by Pastor Charles Moore, Charlie’s nephew. Interment will follow at Resthaven Cemetery in Corbin with the local D.A.V. in charge of military honors. The family will receive visitors from noon until the time of service at Laurel Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: First Baptist Church, 2890 Broadway, Paducah, KY 42001.
