Ms. Kathern Jene Gross Sawyers, age 85, wife of the late Leland Sawyers of Bishop Street, Corbin, Kentucky passed away on Tuesday morning at the Christian Health Care Center in Corbin, Kentucky. She was the mother of Joseph Wayne Sawyers and his companion, Martha Bowman and Nella Mae Wilson and husband, Tim all of Corbin, Kentucky. She was the sister of Bristol Gross and Roscoe Gross both of Indiana, Edna Simpson of Corbin, Kentucky and Maggie Kirgan of Jellico, Tennessee. She was also blessed with a host of other relatives and friends to mourn her passing. She was of the Pentecostal Holiness Faith and attended the Dorthae Pentecostal Church and the Whippoorwill Pentecostal Church, she was retired from the D&W Cafeteria.
Besides her husband, she is preceded in death by her parents, George and Nellie Taylor Gross, by four sisters, Mary Sasser, Julie Herron, Christine Broughton and Katie Sawyers and by five brothers, Tillmon Gross, George Gross, Jr., Carl Gross, Edward Gross and Randall Gross.
Funeral services for Ms. Sawyers will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Friday afternoon in the Laurel Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Jonathan Lawson and Pastor Mike Lee officiating. The family will receive friends at Laurel Funeral Home on Friday from 12:00 Noon until the funeral hour of 2:00 p.m. Private burial will follow in the Taylor Cemetery in the Blackwater Community of Laurel County.
