We are sad to announce the passing of Mrs. Mary Kay McCowan Hibbard. She died at age 80, on August 9, 2023. Kay passed away after a short illness, surrounded by her loved ones.
She’s survived by her loving husband of 59 years, Calvin D. Hibbard, of Corbin, Kentucky.
She was the mother of Mary Ellen Hibbard Nichols (John) of Lenoir City, Tennessee and Suzann Hibbard Derickson (Ryan) of Florence, Kentucky. She will be greatly missed by her grandchildren: Josh Nichols,Cooper Nichols, Kate Nichols, and Amelia Derickson.
Mrs. Hibbard, as she was affectionately known, taught school for 32 years. She had a real passion for learning and spent most of those years teaching second grade at Keavy Elementary. When she wasn’t with kids in the classroom, she spent countless hours teaching children’s church as a faithful pastor’s wife. She was also dedicated to the WMU (Women’s Missionary Union.) She was a member of Lynn Camp Baptist Church when she passed.
Kay passed away exactly 24 years, to the day, after her father Ernest Daniel McCowan. She is also proceeded in death by her mother Cotha Taylor McCowan.
Funeral services for Mrs. Hibbard will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday morning in the Laurel Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Justin Morris and Bro. Johnny Jervis officiating. A burial will follow in the Pine Hill Cemetery in Corbin, Kentucky. The family of Mrs. Hibbard will receive friends at Laurel Funeral Home from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Friday evening.
